These are my best 8 tips for Savvy home decor. You see, Savvy home decor is one of my favorite things! It can be especially important for people who have recently bought a home to think about how they are spending. Buying a home is an expensive and very stressful time. Using someone like Eddie Yan might help ease that stress! There’s nothing I like better than a deal. Especially when it’s free, but I don’t score much free stuff…….well, hardly any free stuff……..well, actually no free stuff. I don’t know why, but that just never seems to happen for me.
If you’re feelin’ my pain, then pull up a chair. I can’t think of a better way to get acquainted than over a big ole’ stack of smart shopping ideas.
I mean, who doesn’t like to shop? AmIRight?
Savvy Home Decor Shopping
Because this is a topic that is so near and dear to my heart, I created a Pinterest board called “Where to Buy It Cheap” that I hope will be helpful. I plan to feed that board like a hungry bear, so if you’re looking for a home decor deal, maybe…just maybe… it’s on the board.
Savvy Home Decor buys at Home Depot
Every day, on their website, Home Depot has a “Special Buy of the Day“ which is one featured item that’s up to 50% off. I have gotten so many random bargains from this daily deal, I can’t even count. Everything from lawnmowers to area rugs. At some point, something you want will be featured. Just check the “Special” when you put on the morning coffee because the feature usually sells out quickly. You will find a little white square labeled “Special Buy of the Day” on their main webpage. They do move it around…it’ll be on the top one day and the bottom the next.
Savvy Home Decor at Lowe’s
As far as I know, Lowe’s doesn’t have a daily special, but they do offer 5% off everyday if you pay using their credit card. This could really add up if you’re facing a large project. They also offer discounts for veterans. And, of course, they have a clearance section and free shipping after you order $49 in value. It’s a great way to stockpile for upcoming projects.
Trifecta of Bargain Retailers – HomeGoods, Marshall’s, and TJMaxx
My three “go-to” stores for lamps, rugs, small furniture pieces, and other general accessories.
In my area, they have the absolute best prices. I sometimes have to wait to find what I want, which is annoying, but because of the great prices, it’s worth it. I also have their credit card and love the little reward checks that come with the bill.
Any love for IKEA?
Huuuum, I think IKEA is ok for some things. I find some of their items clever and fun, and others….not so much. And, the same is true for quality. The key is to really examine what you are considering. For this reason, online shopping with IKEA isn’t top on my list.
If I really want an item from IKEA, I make the haul to mid-town Atlanta to pick it up. Ugh. Trust me. It’s a haul. But, I love the IKEA boxes in my son’s bookcase and the lights above his bed. So, never say never.
Don’t pull the rug!
We all love finding a beautiful new rug to place in our living room, and with a wide variety of tasteful products to choose from at places like Bazaar Velvet, it may be time for you to invest in a new fabric for your living room. For rugs, I’m constantly scanning the online offerings of RugsUSA and RugSale. The choices are amazing and often used when I can’t wait any longer for HomeGoods/Marshalls/TJMaxx.
And, what’s even more amazing is that I can usually find what I want in the sale or clearance section with free shipping. Always scan this section first. Finding your dream rug at 70% off will make you smile, I promise. 🙂
Savvy Home Decor Lighting
For lighting, it’s a bit tougher. Sometimes, Lowe’s has great deals on good quality items with free shipping. Otherwise, it’s a toss-up for sales and specials among my three “go-to” stores, and the sales at Joss & Main, Pottery Barn, Birch Lane, and Ballard Designs.
In my experience, it’s really tough to find good quality lighting at a low, low price. Saying this though, there are options to find lighting features online. Plus, there tend to be more options when it comes to designs and colour. Lighting in any room is very important, as it can create a relaxing atmosphere. For example, the use of ceiling lights can make or break a room, especially as it can be the focal point.
So, I created Pinterest boards called “DIY Lighting” and another one called “Painting Glass“. Thrift store re-dos are very popular nowadays, so I will be pinning all of the great lighting ideas I can find.
In my latest room redo, I added some fun nightscape lighting for only $10. Sometimes, to stay within budget, I just have to think outside-the-box.
Of course, Amazon is always a good place to check out products, especially lighting. And, they have a deal of the day, too. It may also be worth linking up with Amazon Prime for better shipping options and access to even more deals. It’s been fantastic for our family.
Fabric for Savvy Home Decor
I shop sales plus coupons at JoAnn’s and Hancock’s as much as possible. And, there are a few big discount stores in my area that offer a large selection of drapery/upholstery fabrics. But, I have heard good things about OnlineFabricStore.com, JoAnn.com, and Fabric.com, just to name three. So, if you don’t like these, there are certainly plenty more options. For example, the draperies that you see here are made from ready-made panels (here) bought at Target.
I’m sure as time goes on, we will keep adding to the list….like furniture, bedding, a memory foam mattress, housewares, and appliances. If you happen to have a favorite retailer, please send me the pin and I’ll pin it to the board so that everyone can enjoy the discounts.
It’s so great to share this time with you. I look forward to hearing all about your home decor deals and steals.
Until next time,
Happy decorating,
Suz
