Easy Spring Home Decor
Once you’ve decided what sort of color scheme you want to go with . . . you will want to clear away extra clutter. You can make a few bucks by selling extra stuff on eBay or by having a yard sale. If you intend to put things to use again in the future, simply wrap safely and store in bins for the next appropriate season.
Choose a room, area or table to begin with and give it a good cleaning. Alternatively, you can pick up a new piece for a special focal point by shopping big sales. Replacing ONE piece of furniture with something SPECIAL and updated can make a huge difference!
I started with our entry area. I found an old floral painting (with a spring flair) at a thrift store for a few dollars. The painting had good bones, great colors, but was in a dark brown frame.
To lighten and brighten it up, I brushed on a layer of acrylic white paint. Once it dried completely, I sanded and roughed up the raised areas. Instead of hanging it, I propped it up against the wall for a more casual look and feel. There are different ways to achieve this feel, without breaking the bank, for example, a friend of mine even told me about somewhere similar to Bumblejax where she could get ideas on different type of wall art might be a fit for her home.
The antique blue bottle came from a yard sale a few years ago. It was purchased for the color! I love the color! It is perfect for spring accents around the house. If you cannot find one that is just right for you, you can always use acrylic paint to make your own.
I bought one new sprig of silk flowers that I found on sale (see several options below) to immediately add a spring flair to the entry.
Easy Spring Home Decor – Little Details
If you look closely at the little basket (pictured below) you may catch a glimpse of the sweet white sand dollars nestled inside it. Using natural items to decorate is a wonderful frugal way to bring a bit of the outdoors into your home.
I used my ChalkOla Chalk Markers to add touches of blue to the otherwise natural colored basket. Because the surface is porous, the color might not come off completely when wiped with a wet rag, but it can be removed partially and painted over again if I need to change the color.
The candlesticks were found for around a dollar at a thrift store. With a coat of white paint and touches of blue again from the Chalkola markers, they have a shabby chic look and fee. I used a dry brush to quickly brush on the chalk paint. When you press the fat tip of the marker down firmly onto a plate, the liquid will drip out. It didn’t take much to mix the white and blue to get the color I wanted. You can always cover your piece in the spray sealant to protect the paint. I like to be able to change them out with the season.
The antique white pitcher, we picked up from a roadside thrift store in the mountains. The pretty blue plate I’ve had for quite a while – but you can get a similar decorative fish plate here if you are in the market for one.
