DIY Grain Free Dog Biscuits – these were developed because one of our sweet dachshund pups has the need for grain free dog food. As a matter of fact, as long as she doesn’t get regular dog food, she remains seizure free.

Our dogs bring us so much joy, and really ask so little in return. When our sweet fur baby began having seizures, I immediately went to work doing research on the subject. Now, while grain free may not always be the right answer, it has stopped her seizures! Also, we’ve begun feeding one grain free kibble meal in the morning, and raw meat (with special additives) in the evening. As I learn more and more about how, why, and what dogs really need and what is wrong with so much of the dog food on the shelves these days, I’m thrilled with our decision, and so are the dogs.
I’ll be sharing our Raw Meat Mixture Dog Food Recipe very soon. There are vitamins, minerals, and macros they really must have – so it’s important to do your research and speak to your vet before switching the diets.
DIY Grain Free Dog Biscuits
Ingredients
- 1 cup Pumpkin – (100% pure/plain) provides natural fiber, vitamins, nutrients (vitamin A, B6, C, D, calcium, iron, magnesium)
- 1 cup Peanut Butter – contains important magnesium! (NO Xylitol or artificial sweeteners – regular is fine, but steer clear of “low sugar”)
- 1 large Egg – washed well – crush shell and add in for added calcium!
- 1 cup Coconut flour – provides protein, fiber, healthy fats
- 1 cup Tapioca flour – full of minerals including calcium
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Line baking sheet with parchment, coconut oil, or olive oil
- In bowl mix ingredients – add more flour if mixture is too wet to roll out. Tip: use coconut oil on hands and roller to help in the process
- Knead and Roll out onto floured or oiled surface to 1/4 inch thickness
- Use cute cookie cutters – I love THIS small dog bone cookie cutter as it’s the perfect size for my dog treats!
- Place on cookie sheet and bake 15 minutes (flip cookies if you want them browned evenly) bake 15 minutes more. If desired, cook them longer for a crispier option – lower heat and cover cookies with foil to protect.
Just two short months ago, Bones (the big boy) was a very sad, grieving, unhealthy foster dog. He’s now a part of our family through Low Rider Dachshund Rescue and truly beginning to thrive again. Bones is 12 years old and came to us in an emergency after his human died suddenly. Poor baby was so sad and confused – he was also in some physical pain. He still has a way to go but these days, we’re having to force him to slow down and go easy to keep him from hurting himself. He is acting like a puppy again! His coat is shinier and he is once again, at home where he knows his is loved.
All three of our dogs are happy – relaxing, playing in the sun. You can almost see from the picture above how shiny and healthy their coats are. They LOVE their new diy grain free dog biscuits and all three line up in the kitchen to beg with their pretty eyes when they see me head that direction. I’m a sucker for those puppy eyes!
